SQL table only showing numeric fields

Postby benjji » Thu Apr 25, 2013 8:43 am

Hi

i'm connecting to a SQL table using Ff, which is then being used by SAP

when i use the fileDSN, and the udl file
i can see all the tables in the SQL dataset, but on the particular dbo table i want to run a Ff aspect over i can only see the numeric fields !
there are about 10 fields in the dbo table, but Ff will only show 4 !

any ideas ?

There are only certain field types that Ff will recognize. These have direct analogs in Ff and are the same types that were a part of the SQL core data types in the early 90's.

I'm guessing that the types it won't recognize are some of the newer datatypes that have been adopted by different manufacturers. You'll have to get a list of the data definitions to be sure.

Can you create views? If so, you can manipulate the data types to something meaningful for Ffenics.

somehow it now works !

Trina showed me how to use OLEDB to connect to SQL tables, and for all the SQL stuff i've used it's been ok
but now the new SAP program is running on Win2008server, 'it no worky' !

but i decided to change things (lots of options), one at a time
and using ODBC all the fields in every table now appears !
and i can write directly to the SQL dbo using Ff

thanks all for being a sounding board !

It never ceases to amaze me that so much software simply doesn't work out of the box where cross-platform needs are.
