Full Locking Strategy on XP Networks

Postby PeterB » Wed Jan 05, 2011 1:55 pm

Does anyone know if an Application Preferences Locking Strategy of Full with a Database Engine Locking Strategy of Full can be used on a network of 2 Windows XP machines, with the database being held, and locked locally, on one of the machines?

Peter, the pc being used as the server must be logged onto itself on the shared drive, too. Then you can test locking properly to see if it is working. I assume you are describing a peer-to-peer network here.

Sometimes they work, but it is realy a social issue rather then a technical one. i.e. if the server pc is used a lot for other things you won't likely be happy with the performance.

It also depends on the version of XP. The home versions don't support full (record level) locking.
