TMP files in database folder

Postby Garry Flanigan » Sat Feb 11, 2012 12:01 am

After many years we are now seeing TMP files in the database folder of a DFW6.5 application. As I recall, these are meant to be created in c:\temp and are then deleted automatically by Dease. I note also that the client recently installed some Win7 machines.

I am guessing that the TMP file problem is be caused by set-up of the new PC's with c:\temp not existing or the Preferences setting not being C:\temp\ (the last forward slash being essential as I recall). Am I correct or are there other possible causes?

Also, can I safely delete *.TMP files? (Better to be safe than sorry - I do so little work in DFW that I have forgotten most of what I once knew!)

Gidday, Garry,

Yep, the new workstations are the culprit and you can safely delete the TMP files. You need to redo their workstation config after creating a new C:\temp on the Win7 machines.

You're going to love Win7! (NOT)

My mother was born in Melbourne around 1924.

Hi Phil,
Thank you for the feedback.
I have been amazed over the years at how many people know someone who lived or lives in Melbourne. Maybe there is something to the six degrees of separation idea.
Can you share any hints regarding issues with Win7?

My brother-in-law comes from Melbourne and now lives in Canberra (because of his job). Melbourne is a beautiful city.
