Table users creation error

Postby CarverRon » Thu Jul 26, 2012 12:55 pm

Dataease 6.1
Has any one seen this error?
It appears upon signing in.
Backup and restore, does not resolve the issue.
Actually it backs up correctly with no errors, but upon restore, atmost at the end, gives a fata error and does not finnish.
I can add users, delete users or search and find.
All forms has been organized, no errors.
I tried to just back up the program with no data and it gives the same result.
Opening with 6.5 gives the same result.

Any suggestions or solutions?

Aside from the error what is the problem?

If you can see the users from, add, modify, etc. then what are you worried about?

The user are reporting temporay unability to search and get the right results.
The system is very slow since they are getting error.
In some ocations certain user can not get some calculation to work properly, while other user can. In 2 occassions, 2 different users could not log in. They had to turn off the system.
Plus the wondering if all reports are reported properly.
They are working extra hard to verify the data. That is how they have noticed the bad results in some reports.
The system is not trusted.

I suspect your initial backup/restore messed things up. It has never been a solution for anything actually. Better to research what the main problem is and fix that rather then assuming a backup/restore will make everything nice again.

Also, 6.1 is old and buggy. 6.52 less so. But simply opening it in 6.52 will not fix anything already broken or corrupted.

Do your best to isolate each problem and figure out what needs fixing.

Phil, thans for the reply. I was hoping if any one had this error before me.
Those problems mentioned, started after the "Table users creation error" start popping.

So the question is:
What triggers that error?
What file is corrupted?
If no one, had experience this error, I was hoping Peter could help us, as he would have designed the error response to problems.

A bit of guessing, but ...

What about taking a look in the RDRR file (using JADA) to look for entries for USER???, etc.

Also, what is the DOS name of the USER*.DBM? It should be USERxAAA.DBM.

Finally, what about the permissions, etc, on this file? Or anything else 'user'-ey, including the USERFORM.DBS in the program folder?

Adrian, thanks for responding.

permision are read and write for all.

I did take a look at the user* file in the DB directory
There are 2 userGaaa files .DBM with 4k & .FRM with 11k
The userGaaa.DBM file changes date upon adding another name.
There are 2 more userGaab files, but the DBM did not change date.

I did open the jada tools5 and I did not see a way to look at the Rdrr file.
I saw the option for deleting the rdrr file only.
I saw the user file under Jada and it seems OK.

Where in Jada tools I could open the RDRR file?

I did find a way to look at the RDRR file under Jada tools. It is under Delete the rdrr file. There you can see all the files.

Under users, I saw the file name userGaaa.
What sould I have notice in the that section?

I was thinking of the forms troubleshooter option, and was really just wondering if anything in there looked odd?

I don't know, say, a "temp form xxx" whose corresponding DBM is USERGAAA.

I don't have a definitive answer; I'm just looking for clues at this stage.

Thanks for taking the time. I did check for user name in other forms association, but everything looks good.
I deleted the usergaaa(s) file and replace them with older copy.
It gave me the error of need to reorganized. I did fix it, but the opening error still there.
I delete all records in the user table, but one
(myself), still the same.

What was the name of the other utility, besides Jada, used to view records and code in the fields?

If I delete all users from the DB, I can not get back in.
How could I convert the DB to a DB with no user/password needed?
