Ransomeware virus hits DFD 5.12

Postby Phil Winkler » Tue Apr 15, 2014 9:02 pm

A client in Long Island using 5.12 has essentially lost his app to this virus. His *.msg system files have become encrypted and all his data forms now have invisible fields altho you can list out the fields and the data. Very odd. I replaced his *.msg files with good ones, but haven't been able to do anything with his app data yet.

Very, very scary.

Phil, I presume that your client performs daily backups and can recover his data?

Also, does your client know how his system became infected?

No idea, yet, how the virus got into them, but along with the *.msg files being encrypted the *.cfm files were too. The dbm files were find. So, the IT guy was able to restore the db and then overcopy all the cfm files and badda-bing, they are back up and running with no loss of data. They are happy campers now.
