Does DE DOS run on Win7 or 10?

Hi all,

I'm a bit out of touch with the practicals of DataEase DOS, but I've been asked the following:

"Will the DOS version of Dataease have an issue with Windows server 2008 64 bit edition if the files are just being shared off of there and the users are still using 32 bit workstations?"

They didn't say what version of Windows (7 or 10, I assume), but anyone know the answer?

Cheers, Adrian

Can't see a problem with that, Adrian, as long as the workstations are running their own exe and have the appropriate permissions. It's only the DE16M.exe that doesn't work with a 64 bit os . They deserve a medal for persistence in the face of obsolescence. :)

The database can be located almost anywhere, BUT they need to make sure the correct locking scheme is working.
In System Configuration, last page they will see "The network operating system in use is":
LAN Mangler/Manager is the normal setting for Windows based servers.

If they have multiple simultaneous users, I always test the record locking...

Call up a record on screen 1.
Call up the same record on screen 2 and make a change. F8 to update.
Back on screen 1, make a different change. Press F8 to update.
You should get a warning "This record has been modified" or similar.

That way you know that the record locking is working correctly.

The file that controls the Network Config is CONFIGUR.DAT. Unfortunately, the INSTALL.EXE program that edits it, does not work under 32-bit Win 7...
