Linking FFenics 1.6 to Postgres SQL

Postby paulboyes » Tue May 15, 2018 7:44 am

I want to link an existing FFenics application to a Postgres SQL database on Amazon AWS.

Basically I want to be able to update data in SQL tables and also extract some data from the same.

Any help appreciated.

If it cannot be connected through ODBC or OLEDB; I doubt it's possible

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

What I do know is there are drivers for ODBC and JDBC.

Basically, being an idiot, I need pointers as to how to set it up in Ffenics as I cannot find any documentation. :D

I do have some experience on OLEDB, but not on ODBC unfortunately. The first step however would be pretty much the same for both of them: defining the DB-link through Application | Database Links | Engine type:ODBC. You might also find some useful information on the forum though, searching for 'ODBC'.

From my experience (again; OLEDB - it could be different on ODBC), Ffenics very easily gets hung up in stupid errors if you query the same table more than once in one session. What I typically would do to avoid this is to transfer all records from one (or several) tables into Ff and then manipulate the data further on in Ffenics. Obviously this approach is not viable with a complex data model.

And just an idea; if you don't find enough information here, you could google +dataease +odbc
I guess nothing about ODBC ever changed since the dark ages ;-)

Here's one as an example
