Rotated Text

Postby Gil Fleming » Tue Apr 24, 2018 11:19 am

Ffenics has the option to rotate text with degree-precision, in its Display dialog. It doesn't seem to work. I tried rotating a piece of text through 10°(uphill from left to right) which obviously makes the text object taller. It displayed as though the text had been shaved off anywhere above the original text object height. A 90° rotation made the text disappear altogether (very Paul Daniels). Does anyone use this feature or is it a known defect that we don't like to talk about?

It works (sort of) if you prepare the ground beforehand:
a) enlarge the container horizontally by about 20 percent
b) enlarge it vertically so it becomes more or less a square
c) set the justification to anything other than left
d) set the slant somewhere between 273 and 360

Cosmetically, it is almost acceptable at 315 so you could screenshot that into MS Paint, rotate left 90 degrees, paste that back as an image and voilà : your text at a 45 degree slant.

The fact that text disappears between 1 and 272 degrees is because they chose the upper left corner of the text string as the axis of rotation. Upper-right would have been a better choice.

Thanks Mark

AS I suspected, this feature gets a usability score of -10.

I think I'd rather stick a nail in my shoe and walk around the office.

Useful to know though.
