Adding a hyperlink to field-data

Postby Inman Development » Mon May 12, 2008 9:11 pm

Web Publisher, Web Elements advice

in reviewing the main.asp, xml, xsl, and includes seems there are several ways to manipulate the script.

Example: say i make a datafield called "WEBSITE" in the customer table. Can you help me insert code to make the "WEBSITE" "field data"
hyperlink to the input value. Or make a "image_field" hyperlink to a data-entry value on doubleclick

Thanks

I'd try the following:

1. Create a new aspect over the form, and use this aspect as your source for your web page.
2. Add a virtual derived something like:

concat ( "<a href=" , convert ( "n34" ) , websiteURL , convert ( "n34" ) , ">", websiteDesc , "" )

The convert function is used to put a quote sign around your website url; you could also use a single quote as part of the resultant string.

Hello there,

Currently there isn't a way to do this in either WebPublisher or WebElements.

If you put html type code into field data it will get stripped as WebElements assumes that you wish to see the characters and not send html code to the browser .

There is a plan to add this functionality ( possibly as a field option setting ) in a later version of WebElements

Thanks for your replies

I have edited the xml and added several hyperlinks within forms. But the hyperlinks are static to the form which works great for navigation. Trying to add hyperlink to input data on the fly seems to be a bit more involved. Most web developers say adding an active ancore within an input can't be done. I am not sure if this applies.
That would be great if WebElement updates include this funtion. What does someone do in the meantime to show their constant changing data with links on the web.

I tried the concat within a derived vertial field. The XML posted like this:

<FIELDNAME>
- FIELDLINK
</FIELDNAME>
- <DERIVFORMULA>
- concat ( "<a href=" , "www.",n34 ,".com" ,">"," GOTO","" )

</DERIVFORMULA>

data result looks like this: GOTO

Iit should look like this GOTO

just as trina said - the code is omitted by html and shows up as text

I still think this can be done by editing the XML or XSL code - Any suggestions?

No, I'm sorry: was just guessing.

I do like a challenge, though, and I'm sure this is doable. Somehow... the answer is out there!

FWIW, I've been going through various XML and HTML references to see if there is a way to edit the XML file to include a static email link and have found a method that works if anyone is interested

I'm going to continue to look at this some more to see what else can be done but the mix of HTML, XML, ASP, and EIEIO along with a healthy dose of JavaScript makes it very difficult to track things down. Add to that, part of the HTML was done using some older conventions and some done with the newer conventions, and it's all mixed in together. It's enough to give me a headache.
